Railhop basics
What does Railhop do?
Railhop does the work of claiming Delay Repay. It finds your delayed trains from your tickets, your contactless or Oyster statement and, if you turn it on, journey detection in the iPhone app. It works out what you're owed and fills in the train company's own claim form. You check it and press submit. It also finds contactless and Oyster journeys where you were charged a maximum fare, alerts you to delays and shows where any train is right now.
Is Railhop really free?
Yes. No fees, no subscription and no adverts, and Railhop never takes a cut. The train company pays you directly.
Do I need to set anything up?
To check contactless or Oyster journeys automatically, connect your TfL account in the app once. You can also add tickets, or check a single journey without the app.
Does Railhop submit claims for me?
No. Railhop fills in the train company's own form, then you check it and press submit yourself. The claim is between you and the train company.
Is Railhop an alternative to Delay Repay Sniper?
Yes. Delay Repay Sniper emailed commuters their delays and, on its top plan, submitted claims for them; it is no longer a service you can sign up to. Railhop is the modern way to claim: it finds your delays and fills in the train company's own form, and you stay in control of the claim, because you check it and press submit yourself.
Do I need the app?
The iPhone app does the automatic parts: spotting your trains, checking contactless journeys and filling in forms. On this website you can check a past journey or a contactless or Oyster statement and see your account, and with Railhop's browser extension it fills in claim forms on a computer too. The iPhone app is coming soon to the App Store. The Android app is in closed testing and not yet public.
Is Railhop part of a train company or National Rail?
No. Railhop is independent. It isn't owned by, affiliated with or endorsed by any train company, TfL or National Rail. Live train times come from National Rail Enquiries' Darwin data feed.
Do I need an account?
Not to check. You can check a past journey or a contactless or Oyster statement without signing in. To claim, you need a free account, with just an email address or Sign in with Apple or Google, so Railhop can keep your claim references, check a ticket isn't claimed twice and remind you before a claim runs out.
Delay Repay
How late does my train have to be?
Most train companies pay Delay Repay from 15 minutes late, and some only from 30. Cancellations count too: most train companies measure it by how late you reached your destination.
How long do I have to claim?
Usually 28 days from the day you travelled. Railhop reminds you 3 days before a claim runs out.
How much will I get back?
It varies by train company, your ticket and how late you were. 18 of the 24 train companies Railhop covers pay 25% of a Single from 15 minutes late, 50% from 30 minutes and 100% from an hour. 6 pay only from 30 minutes, and some have their own bands. Railhop works it out for each journey from that company's own terms.
Does it work with Season Tickets and Travelcards?
Yes, for delays on National Rail trains. Each train company works out what one journey on your Season Ticket is worth, by its own rules. Add your ticket once in the app and Railhop offers it for every claim it covers.
Which train companies are covered?
Railhop checks delays on all 30 train companies with a Delay Repay scheme, from National Rail's train data. It fills in the claim forms of 28 of them in the iPhone app and with the browser extension on a computer. It doesn't fill in TfL's own delay refunds for the Elizabeth line and London Overground, which you claim in your TfL account.
Contactless & Oyster
How does Railhop check my contactless journeys?
Connect your TfL account in the app once. Railhop brings in your journey history and checks every train on it for delays.
Does Railhop keep my TfL password?
No. You sign in on TfL's own website inside the app, and Railhop never sees or stores your TfL password. Your phone's password manager can fill it in for you.
I forgot to tap out. Can I get money back?
Often, yes. Railhop spots journeys where you were charged a maximum fare, works out what you should have paid, and plans your refund requests to get the most back. TfL lets you ask online for up to 3 a month. For more, call TfL on 0343 222 1234. TfL refunds the difference. Wait 48 hours first, as TfL sorts most out by itself, and ask within 8 weeks of the journey.
Tickets
Do I need a photo of my ticket?
Some claim forms ask for one. Snap it once in the app, or add it on the website, and Railhop attaches it to your claim. It stays on your phone or computer and goes only to the train company's own form, unless you choose to send it to us to improve photo reading.
I bought my ticket on Trainline or another app. Can I still claim?
Yes. Where you bought it doesn't matter. Add the ticket in Railhop and claim from a train company you travelled with. If the delay was another company's, it passes your claim on.
Can I forward my booking email to Railhop?
Yes. Your account has its own forwarding address, shown on Tickets & Passes and in the app. Forward the booking email with your e-tickets to it from the email you sign in with, and Railhop adds the tickets, and an Advance ticket's train to your journeys. It works with TrainPal and most e-ticket PDFs. Railhop deletes the email once it's read and keeps the e-tickets encrypted for your claims.
Browser extension
Why do I need a browser extension?
Each train company's claim form is on its own website, and a website can't fill in another website's form. Railhop's free browser extension does it on your computer: it opens the train company's form and fills in your journey, ticket and details. On a phone, the Railhop app does the same.
Which browsers does it work in?
Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Firefox on a computer. Safari isn't supported yet: there you can copy your claim details into the form yourself.
What can the extension see?
Only Railhop's website and the train companies' claim forms. It can't see the other websites you visit or your browsing history. When you submit a claim, it saves the train company's claim reference to your Railhop account, and nothing else goes to Railhop.
Does it keep my train company login?
No. If a train company's form needs you to sign in, you sign in yourself. The extension never stores your password and never presses Sign In for you.
Does the extension submit my claim?
No. It fills in the form and stops before the end, so you can check everything and press Submit yourself.
Alerts and Track a Train
How do delay alerts work?
Railhop learns your usual trains and sends a notification from the iPhone app when one is delayed or cancelled, or when there's disruption on your line. If your train is cancelled, it tells you the next one.
Privacy and your data
Does Railhop track my location?
Only if you allow it. Journey detection, which is optional, uses it to work out which train you took. Track My Train and Train Times use it only on your phone. Nobody else sees your journeys.
Does Railhop sell my data?
No. Railhop never sells your data and shows no adverts. The privacy policy has the details.
Do you keep my bank details?
Yes, if you add them, so you only add them once. Signed in, each Autofill Profile's bank details (the name on the account, sort code and account number) are kept in your Railhop account, encrypted, to fill the train company's payment step on your phone and computer. They're shown masked, and we email you whenever they're added or changed. On your phone they're also locked with Face ID or your fingerprint; signed out, the app or the browser extension keeps them on that device only. You still check the claim and submit it.
Do my saved claim details sync between the website and the app?
Yes, when you're signed in. Your Autofill Profiles (name, email, phone, address and bank details) are kept in your Railhop account, encrypted, so the website and the app fill the same details. We email you whenever bank details change. Turn on "Keep on this device only" to keep profiles and bank details on one device.
How do I delete my account?
In the app or on the website, go to Account and choose Delete my account.
Stop leaving money on the train.
Free to use. No cut of your refund.
