You can get the extra fare back. TfL refunds most incomplete journeys by itself, so wait 48 hours. If yours isn't refunded, ask through your TfL account within 8 weeks of the journey. TfL lets you ask online for up to 3 a month; for more, call TfL on 0343 222 1234.

Was your train 15 minutes late?

Then you can usually claim. Most train companies pay Delay Repay from 15 minutes late; Caledonian Sleeper, CrossCountry, Hull Trains, LNER, Lumo and ScotRail start at 30. The later you arrive, the more you get back. A delay of 60 minutes or more is compensated whatever caused it.

28

How long do you have to claim?

28 days. Your claim must reach the train company within 28 days of the journey, unless that company gives longer. After that the money is gone.

S

Do Season Tickets count?

Yes. Each train company works out what a delayed journey on a Season Ticket pays, by the rules in its Passenger's Charter. Regular commuters miss the most.

✕

Was your train cancelled?

If you still travelled, claim Delay Repay for how late you reached your destination. If you decided not to travel because of it, get a full refund from whoever sold you the ticket, with no admin fee (Season Tickets have their own refund rules). You can have one or the other, not both.

Delayed on the Tube or DLR?

TfL refunds a single fare when a Tube or DLR journey is delayed by 15 minutes or more, or a London Overground or Elizabeth line journey by 30 minutes or more, if the delay was within TfL's control. Claim through your TfL account within 28 days.
